Electric Vehicle State Aid in the Netherlands

Dec 26 2013 Published by under European and German energy law

The EU Commission has approved state aid by the Netherlands for electrical vehicles in the city of Amsterdam.

This is a small program with a total volume of EUR8.61 million. It is open to businesses in the city that decide to buy an electric vehicle instead of a gasoline car and covers the difference in purchase price.

There is also a part of the program that is used for installing loading stations.

The Commission has approved this program because it contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, one of the environmental policy goals of the EU. The Commission also notes that the program does not discriminate between different makers of electrical vehicles.

I think this program is a good idea. Other EU Member States should have such a program as well.
